I will never cease to be amazed by the Holy Spirits connection to me. He knows my needs before I do. He is in me and places before me the very things that I need to choose the correct path and find encouragement in Him.
This has been an interesting week. There have been some challenges, many of which are the kind that is difficult for me since the strokes. But as I prayed this morning God turned me to two things:
And in both, I found peace and comfort as I prayerfully reviewed each.
Oswald Chambers ‘Utmost for His Highest’
Chambers spoke of perfecting our holiness in the fear of God. His reference verse was 2 Corinthians 7:1
“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body[a] and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”
The promises he speaks of… the reason that we must cleanse ourselves is spelled out in Chapter 6. And what awesome promises they are…
2Corrinthians 6:16-18
For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
17 Therefore go out from their midst,
and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you,
and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.”
What an awesome thought that is… What a wonderful reminder of who I am. I was bought at a price and that gave the indwelling Holy Spirit right to my mill. Not that I am a robot, but a willing servant.
Live in Agreement with God
Chambers gave an excellent explanation of that surrender…
“Christ never spoke of His right to Himself, but always maintained an inner vigilance to submit His spirit continually to His Father. I also have the responsibility to keep my spirit in agreement with His Spirit. And when I do, Jesus gradually lifts me up to the level where He lived— a level of perfect submission to His Father’s will— where I pay no attention to anything else. Am I perfecting this kind of holiness in the fear of God? Is God having His way with me, and are people beginning to see God in my life more and more?” March 18, ‘Utmost for His Highest’, buy Oswald Chambers
My goal is to trust in Jesus and live in agreement with the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful example we have in Jesus. What good questions he asks…
- Is God having His way with me?
- are people beginning to see God in my life more and more?
Am I reflecting Christ Jesus in my behavior or am I still conforming to this world?
My Strength
But none of this can I do on my own. I am a slave to Jesus and in my weakness, He is strong….
As I pondered this devotional this morning a daily verse I read reminded me where my strength comes from… and I read Psalm 62… what reassurance He brings me.
Psalm 62
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
Those Opening verses touch my heart. Regardless of my circumstances, God is with me and He is my salvation. I am overwhelmed by His love.
Like I said in the beginning… This has been a difficult week for me… but I read through this and consider all Oswald Chambers had said and come to the close of Psalm 62
11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work.
Conclusion
What comfort I have in Jesus. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit and His constant guidance and direction. I am so thankful that He opens my eyes and ears to take in all that he has for me.
Verse 11 of Psalm 62 gives me goosebumps as I read it and think of how the morning unfolded.
11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
And then verse 12
12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
Our Hope is in the Lord and He is with us in all circumstances. There is no fear in faith… just a tighter grip on Jesus.
Prayer
Lord thank you for your steadfast love and grace. Thank you, Father, for the gift of prayer and repentance. Thank you for allowing me to bring all my challenges to you.
Thanks, be to you for all you have done and will do. Thank you for your guidance and strength in all things.
In Jesus name, Amen
